The Cost of Fear

September 11th 2001

Cost: 95 billion$ for NYC alone.
Lives: 2,973
The Iraq War.
Cost: 700,000,000,000$
Lives: 106 000
Avian flu

Cost: Jim Adams, Vice President, East Asia & Pacific's Avian Influenza Task Force, World Health Organization, said in Singapore that the economic threat is still real and remains substantial. He added that the previous estimated 800 billion dollar toll was a number that was basically pulled out of the sky - written on the back of an envelope.

Adams also said "But more recent financial modelling had revealed a sharper threat should the virus mutate and pass easily among people."

The actual costs were much harder to find and I had no luck. Go figure.

Lives: 144
Swine flu.

Cost: $1.51-billion has already been spent. In Canada only.
Lives: 3,205
Lives lost yearly to the regular flu: 250,000 to 500,000

Coming to the realization that people use fear to scam other people: Priceless.
